One of the things about being a cop is that friends always hit you up for advice. Mostly, it’s about how to get out of a speeding ticket. But since I’ve only written two speeding tickets in my career (both in my rookie year), I’m not much help in that regard.

So I’m at a holiday party and this guy starts asking me about Occupy Gomorrah: What do you think about it? Don’t you think the number of police used to evict the occupiers was excessive? Were you there? Why don’t they ever use that many police to disperse the Tea Party?

It’s a monster hill. We’re halfway to the top, but the top might as well be miles away. I can’t feel my arms. My legs feel like noodles. I’m losing steam. I watch my feet and pretend there are only a few more strides to go.
